“This year’s DAAD Salon puts on display video works of two artists: Fabian Bechtle and Miodrag Krkobabić, in their own selection. Both artist had already shown their work in Serbia and Germany as well as they both are DAAD Alumni. In Serbia both of them had the chance to present their work in prestige exhibiting spaces such as the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Museum 25th May.
The artistic manuscripts of the two authors differ substantially in form, but their common denominator is dealing with the past, with memory, whether collective or individual. The field of research of these two authors matches as much as the social engagement of the works the two produce. While Bechtle deals with post-socialist society perceived through the eyepiece of contemporary society’s digital revolution, Krkobabić often uses past and memory to perceive them critically by way of contemporary society. They both use patterns of political and marketing manipulation that twist our perception, influencing our outlooks. In their works, the two sometimes demystify and re-contextualise them.”
