Kurzbio
Fabian Bechtle, geboren in Berlin, studierte Bildende Kunst an der Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst Leipzig (HGB) sowie an der École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Lyon. Im Anschluss an sein Meisterschülerstudium war er von 2014 bis 2017 künstlerischer Mitarbeiter in der Klasse für Installation und Raum an der HGB Leipzig.
Gemeinsam mit Leon Kahane leitet er das Forum demokratische Kultur und zeitgenössische Kunst (Forum DCCA), das beide 2018 gründeten. Das Forum versteht sich als Ort künstlerischer Kulturkritik und entwickelt in Kooperation mit Kulturinstitutionen Projekte und Begleitprogramme zu aktuellen gesellschaftspolitischen Fragestellungen.
Fabian Bechtles Arbeiten wurden unter anderem im HMKV Dortmund, im Kunstinstituut Melly in Rotterdam, im Museum of Yugoslav History in Belgrad, in der nGbK Berlin sowie in der Kunsthalle Osnabrück gezeigt. In seinen konzeptuellen Videoarbeiten, die häufig in eigens entwickelte skulpturale und räumliche Settings eingebettet sind, untersucht er den Umgang mit Archivmaterial sowie dessen Aktualisierung im Kontext zeithistorischer Ereignisse und gesellschaftlicher Umbrüche.
Fabian Bechtle, born in Berlin, studied fine art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Leipzig (HGB) and Ensba Lyon. Following his master’s degree, he was a lecturer in the Class for Installation and Space at the HGB Leipzig from 2014 to 2017. Together with Leon Kahane, he runs the Forum for Democratic Culture and Contemporary Art (Forum DCCA), which they both founded in 2018. The Forum sees itself as a space for artistic cultural criticism and, in cooperation with cultural institutions, develops projects and accompanying programmes addressing current socio-political issues. Fabian Bechtle’s works have been exhibited at venues including the HMKV Dortmund, the Kunstinstituut Melly in Rotterdam, the Museum of Yugoslav History in Belgrade, the nGbK Berlin and the Kunsthalle Osnabrück. In his conceptual video works, which are often embedded in specially developed sculptural and spatial settings, he explores the handling of archival material and its contextualisation in the light of contemporary historical events and social upheavals.
